Hi Scott! Would it be possible to get the Bangkok meetup location changed to Sarnies Sukhumvit 39? Found out Arttitude is temp closed yesterday

(I'm the organizer's wife)

Skyler's avatar

*wave* Meetup Czar here. I can put the change in and email confirmation to the Bankok organizer. Should it keep the same time and same date?

Osnat Katz Moon's avatar

Thank you so much. Same time, same date, Sarnies Sukhumvit 39

Skyler's avatar

Should be changed!

Osnat Katz Moon's avatar

Awesome, thank you!

Tristan's avatar

Erm... I want to make a change to my entry, because I didn't realize the email would be visible (even though it says so on the form). Is this possible? Can I send you a message?

Skyler's avatar

Send me an email, skyler at rationalitymeetups dot org, with what you want it changed to. We can't change the email that went out but we can get the post edited.

Timothy M.'s avatar

Hey, I submitted another meetup for Los Angeles and never heard back [EDIT: Nope, that's false, I just managed to miss it]. Wondering if you could edit in the info for it.

April 18, 2:15 PM at Thymele Arts in Hollywood.

https://plus.codes/85633MRR+CC

RSVP on LessWrong: https://www.lesswrong.com/events/HzSsF7ub5SzRy3GXu/hollywood-acx-meetup-april-2026

I am reachable on the same Discord as the other LA meetup.

Keen for Canberra!!

For those wondering whether they should come, yes you should :) we had a big event recently in munich and wrote it up as a little advertising for people to come to more meetups: https://ravenstales.substack.com/p/every-acx-house-party?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=389w96

Hi there! I am the Santiago de Compostela (Spain) organizer, and as it's the first time, I didn't have the wisdom to add a note like "Let me know via comment or email if theres a chance you will be coming", but if you read this and are planning to come, please let me know.

Skyler's avatar

I've put in the update for the post- I cut it to email, since it wasn't going to be clear from context where to comment. Hope that helps, and best of luck and skill!

machine_spirit's avatar

Holy Crap, you will attend Zagreb meetup?? I will be away sadly but I will make sure my Croatian bros give you an awesome welcome.

Skyler's avatar

Scott Alexander, attending meetups from B to Z! Okay, just B and Z. Okay, one B and one Z.

If anyone from Alameda is reading this and wants to host a meetup, let me know, you have the opportunity to help make a bad joke mildly funnier.

Nadav Zohar's avatar

Scott, it must be super trippy to see generated this long list of places all over the planet where random strangers congregate and become non-strangers, all centered around stuff you wrote and put on the internet in your free time. I can't even imagine.

BTW Ohio used to have multiple SSC/ACX meetups and now I see there are none. Hahaha nice

Skyler's avatar

One day I will achieve my Meetup Czar dream of having an ACX meetup in every nation and every US state.

(Actually I dream bigger than that but it's a good early target.)

Mo Nastri's avatar

Skyler is ACX meetups czar

João Bosco de Lucena's avatar

Ahhh I thought it was Scott replying from another acct

Skyler's avatar

*Wave* Nope, me and Scott are different people. I do the backend spreadsheeting and formatting for the ACX Everywhere posts, do the accounting for stuff like reimbursements for the groups that need them, keep a bunch of advice handy for new organizers or organizers doing something newly ambitious, and handle complaint reports that need to escalate past the local organizers. For my services I hold the title ACX Meetup Czar.

Time Is Passing's avatar

Thank you for your service

duck_master's avatar

"every US state" seems doable. "every nation" feels far more challenging (I doubt we'll *ever* get a meetup in North Korea, for example)

Skyler's avatar

We have Moscow and Beijing and Baghdad! North Korea feels challenging but doable.

IIRC, the very first wave of meetups happened in all continents except Antarctica.

Even 50 states would be a bit hard if the goal is _consistent_ meetups in all 50. Do you know the current count? (Don't calculate it right now unless you're that curious; I can check the list myself if I have time.)

As for nations: I'm seeing two nations represented in Africa, out of 54. Got a ways to go!

Skyler's avatar

I keep an eye out for any readers who might be at McMurdo station just in case I can get that last continent. Also if anyone from the Artemis II mission reads this, hi, I'm sure you're busy but if you have spare time and interest you have the opportunity to do something very funny.

Currently we're at 31 different states with a Spring Schelling this wave. Consistent isn't something I track, instead I try to be aware of frequency. Some places manage a meetup once or twice a year, some manage every month or two, some are weekly or more. A place that sometimes does Tuesdays and sometimes does Wednesdays and sometimes skips a week and other times winds up with three in a week is inconsistent, but pretty awesome. Also sometimes I miscount a group because I wasn't on the whatsapp thread or wherever they planned it, the schellings/ACX Everywheres are the only time of year I get almost everyone to fill out the same form and make themselves easy to count. Caveats made, I think there's a little over twenty states that do more often than the biannual ACX Everywheres.

Nadav Zohar's avatar

Visiting Antarctica (South Pole Station is my goal but I'd settle for McMurdo) is on my bucket list. (Maybe they need an electrician with a background in human factors research?) I won't promise to do a meetup there, but if I meet someone there who happens to read ACX, and I'm still online in this capacity at that point, then I'll let you know. I feel like that would count.

It seems worth noting that Oklahoma hasn't really had a meetup (if we define that as two or more people getting together explicitly coordinated by this) since 2021. And this year, I don't expect to show up, either, although I'd love to be wrong about that.

Skyler's avatar

Yep, fair note. I think Baghdad and Cape Coral are in similar boats.

Erica E's avatar

I used to run an Ohio meetup (over a decade ago).... I moved to the Bay.

Probably many such cases.

avalancheGenesis's avatar

Huh, no SF meetup...

Now I'm really curious what Fact-Finding Mission Scott's heading to Croatia for.

Taymon A. Beal's avatar

Presumably interested people in SF will want to go to the Berkeley meetup, since Scott will be there.

Skyler's avatar

Nobody volunteered. Last year they had ~monthly meetups, though those seem to have petered out at least temporarily.

Austin Chen's avatar

SF ACX meetups are still ongoing, eg one this week at Mox! https://www.lesswrong.com/events/bcvzriTAaJE9kNGSa/san-francisco-acx-meetup-first-saturday-td5u

My guess is Andrew/Nate just forgot to submit?

Skyler's avatar

Mea culpa, I glanced at groups.google.com/g/bayarealesswrong and saw south bay and Berkeley, and the last First Saturday San Francisco meetup I spotted there was Dec 6th. I should have checked the LessWrong group.

And yeah, I didn't see a submission for SF. I'll email you three and see if we can get the April or May first saturday meetup on the Times & Places post!

Benjamin Church's avatar

is that event supposed to be 2025 or 2026?

sammael's avatar

they have NOT petered out how dare you. they are extremely lively and well attended and havent missed a month in years

Skyler's avatar

I stand corrected, they just moved off the mailing list I was paying attention to!

Visiting Medjugorje?

Grok says that going from Zagreb to Medjugorje takes 5-6 hours, while going from Belgrade to Medjugorje takes 7-8+ hours. Also there are no direct flights from SFO airport to Zagreb or Belgrade, so it shouldn't make any difference to fly to Zagreb or Belgrade. If those were the two best options, it would make sense to chose Zagreb.

But then, why not fly to Sarajevo which is closer to Medjugorje? The only reason I can up with is: Scott wants to attend at least one ACX meeting while in the Balkans and there's no meeting in Sarajevo (their loss).

I'll give it a 10% chance... maybe 9%.

For the Charlotte meetup, it looks like great weather this weekend, so come hang out at Cordelia Park! I'll have a frisbee and spikeball and such.

What happened to the Lviv meetup? I'll be in the area around the time

At least for me, there's something wrong with the plus.codes links. For example, the last link is to https://plus.codes/5864PCGM+34, but when I put my cursor over it, it wants to send that URL to google maps, so it goes to here: https://www.google.com/maps?q=https://plus.codes/5864PCGM%2B34, which isn't a maps link and confuses google maps.

Ancyln Wú Akeeldhab's avatar

Just delete (https://plus.codes/) and write what's left on the Google Maps search bar; you'll be good.

Is the link for the Simi Valley discord broken? Discord's rejecting it.

I filled out the form as a meetup organizer in Columbus Ohio just a couple days ago so it didn't make the post (tbc, this is my fault, not yours).

I'll post the details here for people who ctrl+F the page but would be grateful if Skyler can add it.

Columbus OH meetup

When: 4/18/26 3:00 pm

Where:

840 W 3rd Ave Columbus, OH 43212

We'll meet at the tables up the stairs from the Starbucks inside the Giant Eagle. Look for the ACX MEETUP sign and the guy in a big blue sunhat.

Coordinates:

https://plus.codes/86FRXXPC+CV5

Skyler's avatar

Added! Thanks for running a meetup.

Caledfwlch's avatar

It appears that I have made a mistake with submitting the Moscow meetup date. It is not May 4th, it is April 4th (tomorrow)! Massive oops!

Perhaps if there's a significant amount of people who would miss the event because of this, I'd have to schedule another meetup in a month.

Skyler's avatar

I've updated the post- I hope a lot of people RSVP and you can get back to them!

Jay F.'s avatar

There’s none in SF?!

Stephen Harvey's avatar

Where is the April fools prank? Hidden coded message? Paid subscribers only?

Skyler's avatar

This technically went out on the 31st. I may have told Scott that if it was doing out on April 1st I would want to add some nonsense to it, and about twenty minutes later I got an email saying the post was live XD

Stephen Harvey's avatar

You ranked yourself!

Alex's avatar

Was wondering if it was still possible to change the date for the Meetup in Trento, Italy, from the 29th of April to Sunday 3rd of May.

Skyler's avatar

Yep, still possible. Same time same place I assume, just a different day?

Alex's avatar

Exactly, thank you for the availability

The Leipzig meetup happened yesterday, on time and without incident, but only three regulars of the 23 members of the ACX Leipzig Telegram group participated. No new people came and we did not get any new digital contacts either. The three of us amongst ourselves took the opportunity to have weird fun with advanced stiltwalking training and a trampoline. Obviously we also discussed AI risk like proper ACX people.

Benjamin Ikuta's avatar

Feedback: if a date is just a placeholder and not the actual plan, that should be made clear in the post! I just showed up to a meeting not happening.
