Good idea though it seems like for some of those they are only publicised at the last moment this time around. E.g. the Berlin one is only a week away so it's hard to shift plans.
Fair point, I'm hosting the Canberra meetup which is in 2 days!
My main thought is that these are more 'mini' meetups and the larger one will happen later this year. I wouldn't want anyone to move around their plans too much and I find that if I have a small event scheduled for months from now I forget about it and end up making plans anyway!
If anyone from Canberra reads this and the time is a bit short notice, let me know and I will host another one in 3 weeks :-)
I publicized it last week on the Open Thread (https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/open-thread-218 , see #3) but apparently nobody reads those. Mingyuan figured this out and ordered me to make a top-level post; sorry it took so long.
Helsinki and Copenhagen are on the list -- would love to go to one in Stockholm since that's much easier for me. If anyone wants to organise one I'd be very grateful.
You can still organize one despite living 6 hours away. Pick a time and a place to be publicized in the next post. Request RSVPs and cancel the event if you don't get enough responses to make it worth the 6 hour trip.
My initial thought upon seeing this list was to groan about how far they were - from my place in the Peninsula it's at least 30 minutes to the SF, Berkeley, or Sunnyvale meet up. Thanks for the reminder that for some people 6 hours away is the more convenient location.
Cambridge, UK is going strong! I've submitted one to the form on May 21st. But we also have a meetup this weekend, April 16th. 2pm, Bath House, Peter Singer+Robin Hanson books on the table
Last fall, I made a Schelling error. I thought about hosting a meetup, but I live just over an hour away from each of two bigger cities than mine, and figured it was likely somebody would host in one of those, and I would go, and I didn't want my more local meetup to take away from theirs.
Then nobody did that. So I had no meetup to attend.
Rest assured, Virigina, I am hosting a meetup this fall.
For anyone coming to the Edinburgh meetup, I had to change the location to the Balcony Room in Teviot Row House (3rd floor), because my planned spot is closing. Sorry about this, email acxedinburgh [at] gmail [dot] com to be added to the mailing list.
There will also be a meetup in Hamburg, Germany. Sorry, I didn't make it for the initial announcement.
I have organized ACX/SSC meetups in Hamburg before, but I could need some help, and I'm looking for co-organizers (for this meetup of future ones). Anyway, here it is:
Time: We will meet in the afternoon at 3 PM local time plus/minus 15 min is fine.
Location: Kleine Wallanlagen on the lawn near Memorial Holstenglacis. Here is an Open Street Map Link, which also shows the short-cut tunnel from the subway station:
When: We meet each Wednesday from 17:00-19:30 EDT.
Where: Fair Grounds, an excellent coffee shop located at 806 Baldwin Ave # 2, Norfolk, VA 23517. Do not park in the lot out front, you may get towed. Street parking is plentiful on the side streets off of Colley.
Who: Anyone who wants. Please feel free to come even if you feel awkward about it, even if you’re not “the typical LW/EA/ACX reader”, even if you’re worried people won’t like you, etc.
I will have a sign, though it might only be a printed piece of paper with Norfolk Rationalists on it for now.
I am happy to schedule a meetup on the weekend or a different weeknight for the Spring meetup event :)
I wrote to the Padova meetup organiser a few days ago but I didn't get any answer, so I am writing this here in the case he got my email into his spam folder.
You show up and meet people and talk about whatever you'd like, they're extremely casual in my experience.

Be the change you wish to see in the world!
Alas I live six hours away and have little to no network in Stockholm, or I would! I think there is an EA community there so I'm hoping they see this.

Send me a message on telegram, klingefjord.eth – I can connect you to some rationalists there!

Hi Hamish, that's Easter Saturday isn't it? Visiting parents. But generally speaking I'd love to meet the local crazies, when's the next one?
May 21st! 2pm, Bath House probably :) send your email to @hamish_todd on twitter and I'll add you to the mailing list
Cool, in my diary and I'll see yall there!
Great meeting, but no follow-up email? will there be more?

Which cities in Virginia do you live near?
I live in Lynchburg, and figured there would probably be something in either Charlottesville or Roanoke.
Unfortunately I'll be out of Boston in May (doing a reproductive biology training at Woods Hole, MA).
The Toronto meetup is actually on May 1st, as listed on the LessWrong event. I updated it this morning before the post was published, so the fault is mine for the last minute change. https://www.lesswrong.com/events/HZyKzyHwo52b4goae/schelling-meetup-toronto
Looks like the Pittsburgh meetup is right next to where the bridge collapsed, might be interesting to check out of the repairs are coming….

If you don’t know what I’m talking about
As a long time reader, I was really not expected to see Mumbai on this list. I’m psyched!
The Kraków meetup time changed from 24 IV to 23 IV. Also, here is the Facebook event link: https://fb.me/e/1C1U6gp85
Probably isn't visible enough here
On a side note it would be easier to find a meeting place next to you if the list was sorted by continent.
I hope to see a São Paulo meetup someday

Update on Philadelphia! We're at Tir Na Nog on 16th street between JFK and Arch

Look for pink blankets; There will probably be an ACX sign. If it is raining, we will meet at the tunnel entrance and look for another location.
Please let me know if you will join, see here for details:

Found out about this a bit late, there are now weekly Wednesday meetups in Norfolk, Virginia!
